This presentation’s primary focus is on educating the attorney audience on the many ways they may benefit from leveraging biomechanical experts in cases involving human injury. Biomechanics, as a scientific discipline, is introduced, and its wide array of applications, and tools are covered, including relevant case law throughout. The audience learns about the critical differences between a biomechanist and a medical doctor/physician, and how to best engage both experts for the most efficient and comprehensive case analyses. Evidence collection and associated analyses are presented, including potential sources of relevant information. A thorough discussion of “what information can an attorney provide to a biomechanics expert?” will prepare the attorney audience with practical knowledge on how to make the most of their expert engagement, and ultimately best serve their clients. Various examples of biomechanical analyses in litigation are presented. Ultimately all-important presentation elements are brought together in a case study example of a fall from a hotel window.
